About Leeds Arts University
Visit Official WebsiteLeeds Arts University is a world-renowned specialist public arts university located in the vibrant cultural city of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Founded in 1846 as the Leeds Government School of Art and Design and granted full university status in 2017, it is one of the few remaining independent specialist art and design institutions in the United Kingdom and the only dedicated arts university in the North of England. The university holds a seminal place in British cultural and artistic history, having nurtured the foundational talents of 20th-century modern sculpture icons Henry Moore and Dame Barbara Hepworth, as well as artists Harry Thubron and Terry Frost of the Basic Design movement. Today, Leeds Arts University operates across two central sites: the modern £22 million expanded Blenheim Walk flagship hub and the historic Grade II-listed Victorian Vernon Street studios (built 1899–1903). Offering degree programmes in fine art, illustration, graphic design, animation, fashion, filmmaking, photography, popular music, and creative writing, the university provides an immersive, collaborative, studio-centred environment with industry-standard workshops.
