Match the award to your profile

Scholarships have specific purposes and eligibility rules. Nationality, residence, degree level, subject, academic performance, experience and the application cycle can all matter.

Start with your shortlisted universities and official funding providers. Treat a directory entry as an opportunity to investigate, then read the current provider rules before preparing an application.

Understand what the award covers

Funding labels are not a standard contract. Ask for the exact costs covered, amount, duration and payment arrangements.

01

Tuition award

Pays or reduces eligible tuition. Living expenses and mandatory charges may remain.

02

Stipend or living support

Contributes to daily costs. Check payment dates and the actual local budget.

03

Research studentship

May combine fees, living support and research expenses with progress or duty conditions.

Investigate official funding routes

Different opportunities use different application processes. Admission and scholarship decisions may happen separately.

  1. 1

    University scholarships

Check whether you are considered automatically or need a separate application, nomination or earlier submission.

  2. 2

    Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters

Follow the selected programme’s official admission and scholarship instructions, including the current deadlines.

  3. 3

    Chevening

Check the current conditions for eligible applicants pursuing a one-year UK master’s, including nationality and experience rules.

  4. 4

    Doctoral studentships

Apply through the research organisation advertising the place. Verify international eligibility and the fee rate covered.

Build an evidence-based application

Match each selection criterion to a real example from your academic, professional or community work. Explain your own contribution, what happened and what you learned.

Answer the exact prompt. Choose referees who can describe relevant work, and give them the criteria and enough time. Keep admission, reference and scholarship deadlines in separate columns.

  • Verify eligibility before writing a long essay.
  • Check whether a course offer is required first.
  • Save the application confirmation and the submitted version.
  • Never pay a third party for a guaranteed award.

Read the award letter before accepting

Compare the written offer against your full budget. Check renewal grades, attendance rules, other-funding restrictions and any repayment, service or return obligations.

Clarify what happens if you defer, interrupt or withdraw. Keep a plan for uncovered deposits and travel, especially if support begins only after enrolment.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1Is fully funded the same for every award?

No. Check tuition coverage, living support, travel, insurance, duration and renewal conditions in the actual award terms.

2Can I combine two scholarships?

The providers’ rules decide. Confirm permission and any reduction to an award before counting both in your budget.
