Visit Official WebsiteThe European Graduate School (EGS), established in 1994 and licensed as a Higher Education Institution by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA Licence No. 2015-007), is an internationally pioneering graduate university recognized globally for intensive modular and low-residency Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) education. Rooted in two historic international campuses—the UNESCO World Heritage fortress of Fort St. Elmo in Valletta, Malta, and the majestic alpine village of Saas-Fee in Valais, Switzerland—the EGS operates through two distinguished academic faculties: the Division of Philosophy, Art, and Critical Thought (PACT) and the Division of Arts, Health & Society (AHS). EGS brings together some of the world’s most influential philosophers, theorists, artists, filmmakers, psychoanalysts, and expressive arts pioneers—including historic resident and visiting figures such as Giorgio Agamben, Judith Butler, Slavoj Žižek, Jacques Derrida, Jean-Luc Nancy, Hélène Cixous, and Paolo Knill. The pedagogical model is built around rigorous cross-disciplinary seminars, intensive residential colloquia, and individual research supervision, enabling working professionals, scholars, and creative practitioners to earn accredited European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Level 7 and 8 graduate degrees while maintaining their professional lives.
