About The Graduate University for Advanced Studies, SOKENDAI
SOKENDAI's revolutionary academic model dispenses with traditional classrooms in favor of embedding students within 20 world-class partner institutes operated by the National Institutes of Natural Sciences (NINS), National Institute of Informatics (NII), High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS/JAXA), National Museum of Ethnology (Minpaku), and other MEXT-affiliated inter-university research organizations. Students enroll in either the integrated 5-Year Doctoral Course (for bachelor's degree holders, combining master's and PhD) or the direct 3-Year Doctoral Course (for those holding a master's degree), and perform 100% English-medium research in fields ranging from particle physics and space science to computational biology and cultural anthropology. SOKENDAI students benefit from MEXT Government Scholarships, institutional tuition exemptions, JASSO Honors Scholarships, and research assistantship stipends from partner institutes.
