About Latvian Academy of Culture
The Latvian Academy of Culture (Latvijas Kultūras akadēmija – LKA), founded on 29 December 1990 during Latvia’s national awakening, is the nation’s premier public interdisciplinary university dedicated to cultural theory, audiovisual art, theatre directing and acting, contemporary dance choreography, intercultural relations, and creative industries. Spanning three historic campuses across Riga—the main neo-classical academic building on Ludzas iela 24, the renowned Theatre Arts Centre "Zirgu pasts" on Dzirnavu iela 46, and the National Film School of LAC on Elijas iela 17—the Academy provides specialized elite education across Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral levels. LKA is fully accredited by the Latvian Quality Agency for Higher Education (AIKA/AIC) and holds esteemed international memberships in CILECT (International Association of Film and Television Schools), ELIA (European League of Institutes of the Arts), ENCATC (European Network on Cultural Management and Policy), and the NORDPLUS Nordic-Baltic Network. Educating roughly 1,000 highly selected artists, directors, producers, cultural managers, anthropologists, and doctoral scholars, LKA operates in close synergy with Riga Technical University (delivering joint Creative Industries and Growth Management curricula) and the National Film Centre of Latvia, shaping the intellectual and creative leadership of the Baltic region.
