Founded in 1409 by Louis II of Anjou, Count of Provence, and reconstituted on January 1, 2012 through the historic merger of the Université de Provence (Aix-Marseille I), Université de la Méditerranée (Aix-Marseille II), and Université Paul Cézanne (Aix-Marseille III), Aix-Marseille Université (amU) is the largest multidisciplinary French-speaking public research university in the world. Educating more than 80,000 enrolled students—including over 10,000 international scholars from 140 countries—and employing 8,000 faculty, researchers, and technical staff, amU is the intellectual and scientific titan of Southern France.
